CHURCH HISTORY

Calvary Baptist Church of Greenville, NC was founded on September 14, 1957. The Church was started in an old store building at 1106 N. Greene Street. They called Bro. Jack Finch as their first pastor. On October 2, 1958 the land was purchased where the church is now located. In September 1959 construction was started on the original block building.

Bro. George Godfrey became the second pastor our church on August 18, 1960. And just a couple of years later on March 14,1963 the church called their third pastor, Bro. John Long. Under Bro. Long’s leadership the church started constructing a new auditorium in 1964. The auditorium was in front of the church facing the 11&13 by-pass. Then on April 14, 1967 construction began on the educational building upstairs. It was completed later that year.

On September 17, 1969 Bro. B. B. Nicks was called as the fourth pastor.

Bro. Bobby G. Thomas became their fifth pastor in on October 21, 1971. He held that office for forty-two years and resigned at the end of September 2013. Under his leadership Calvary Christian Academy was established on March 17, 1977. Then Calvary Bible Institute was started on September 7, 1977. More land was purchased and construction of an educational building for the school was finished. Then disaster struck in 1999 as Hurricane Floyd resulted in a great flood that destroyed the old church building and damaged the newer school building. By God’s grace the school building was soon repaired and they used it for both school and church until the new church building was completed in 2001.

On October 2, 2013 Bro. Ronnie Rogerson began his ministry as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. We continue to pray and look forward to the blessings of God in the years ahead till Jesus comes.
